National Service Agency Approves $6.6 Million in Grants To Engage People with Disabilities in Community Service
The Corporation for National and Community Service today approved $6.6 million in grants to five organizations that have developed projects designed to address the needs of people with disabilities and encourage their participation in service programs.
Big Brothers Big Sisters "Little Brother" Participates in the White House Tee Ball Initiative
On Sunday, June 26th, President Bush participated in the White House Tee Ball Initiative on the South Lawn. Launched in 2001 by the President and Mrs. Bush, the initiative was started to promote interest in baseball and a spirit of teamwork and service for America's youth. Featured at the event was Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area Little Brother Aaron Delaney Lucas, who sang the National Anthem.
2005 USA Freedom Corps Summer Interns Mobilize White House Interns For Service Project in Washington, DC.
The 2005 USA Freedom Corps Summer Interns, Alexa Andrews, Mike Stakias, and Esther Larson organized fifty White House interns to paint and prepare apartments for The Turning Point Center, a transitional housing facility of the Salvation Army D.C. Thanks to the largest turnout of any intern service project, five homeless families will gain the life, professional, and personal skills to get back on their feet.
National Service Agency Announces Grants For 25 Senior Corps Organizations
The Corporation for National and Community Service today announced grants totaling more than $600,000 to help 25 Senior Corps programs expand their volunteer forces. The grants will support more at least 400 new volunteers in 20 states serving in the RSVP and Foster Grandparent programs.
